World Population Day 2023: Theme and Significance

World Population Day is addressed on July 11 every year and it challenges all the hustle and bustle burgeoning with undeniable fact. Around thousands of years ago, the world population was supposed to grow 1 billion- and in another 200 years it burgeoned to 8 billion. In 2011, the global population was 7 billion, 7.9 billion in 2021, and it is 8 billion now in 2023 as per the data records. The world population is anticipated to be 9.7 billion in 2050.
A rapid growth in global population showcases some unique challenges that arise on a regular basis as a result of being survived. Humanity has been crushed with a rapid growth in population and burgeoning population outrageously impacted so many people in various ways such as fighting with employment, inflation, maintaining lifestyle, affordable education, healthy diet, poverty, financial crisis, etc.
World Population Day is observed to address all the issues and take action to make the world a better place for all. The awareness towards it anticipates to bring light to the issues and teach each individual about the repercussions of growing population and difficulties related to it.

The theme of the World Population Day 2023 is “Unleashing the power of gender equality: Uplifting the voices of women and girls to unlock our world’s infinite possibilities” the theme is demonstrating everything itself.
With time girls and women utterly reigning by doing versatile roles and it is heard that women are inbuilt emotional which gives them a sense of ability to have conjecture in all the circumstances. Women contribute 49.7% in the global population, still women are being ignored, interrupted and taught for myriad causes, several of women are deprived of their rights.
Injustice with women and girls at home, workplace and leadership positions, limits their ability to make decisions in regard to their health and sexual and reproductive lives; and elevates their vulnerability to insidious practices, abusive violence, with major chances of women dying every two minutes due to pregnancy or childbirth.
We should promote more campaigns to make people aware of gender equality not just in saying or writing but also being seen in actions. The creativity, resources, ingenuity and power of women and girls address to already have and to acquire the capability of challenging the obstacles that threaten our future.
UNFPA (United Nation Population Fund) tells experiences and stories that buttress and motivate women and girls all over the world, and World Population Day makes us realise that an opportunity to ameliorate the condition of women and our society to advance gender equality and assist women to fulfil dreams of all 8 billion of us.
History of World Population Day:
The concept was proposed by Dr. KC Zachariah in 1989 by the United Nations. On July 11, 1987 the worldwide population crossed five billion. It took a little long for all the nations to opt this concept so, other nations started observing this from 1990. Since all the nations started celebrating World Population Day, it became an honourable moment for all.

The World Population Day aims to focus on the major issues raised by a huge crowd related to the worldwide population. It sheds the light on burgeoning population, aggravated poverty, economic crises, and the obstacles handled by women. This day makes all of us aware in order to win over these issues by fighting back for the better future of our posterity.
